At Woombye State School, volunteers are an extremely valuable resource within our school and are always appreciated and sincerely value the continued support of all of our parents and volunteers.
We also welcome all new parents or community members, who can spare some time, to enhance the education of our students.
Volunteer benefits
There are many benefits volunteers can gain from working in our school. These include:
contributing to the school community,
contributing to the health and education of the students in the school,
making new friends,
learning new skills,
gaining the opportunity to strengthen their knowledge of English if it is currently their second language, and
gaining skills that may be used in other employment.
Volunteering in the classroom
The interest shown by you in your child's progress can make an incredible difference in their approach to learning. We urge you to make every effort to provide a consistent approach in your child's education.
This can be achieved by assisting in some of the classroom activities. By working with the teachers, you can ensure that your child is getting the best possible education. Training/instruction is provided in all areas if required.
Listed below are some of the activities you are able to assist with:
Volunteering within the school
There are also other areas in the school that we would really appreciate your assistance:
Gardening - planting, weeding and watering
Working Bees
Mother's/Father's Day Stall
Christmas Markets
Fundraising Working Group (meet every 3rd Wednesday of each month)
Grant Writing Group
Attending the General P&C Meetings to get involved and have a voice!
Volunteering in the tuckshop
In accordance with P&C Qld Policy, Tuckshop volunteers need to complete a FREE online "Food Safety Course" (i.e. watching two videos) available via the P&C Qld website. Once completed, they need to sign a form located in the Office confirming completion of the course and full understanding of the contents. Please see the Principal if you would like support to complete this Course. We are also very happy to provide you access to a computer and internet in order to complete the course.
Signing in and out
To comply with WSS Policy, volunteers need to sign in at the Office and wear a "Volunteer" sticker. Any volunteers who are not parents of a WSS student will also need to have a current Blue Card.
We encourage you to take the time to share in your child's learning, and become involved in a wonderful school environment. Even just an hour a week can make a difference. Please talk to the classroom teacher or contact the P&C Committee on
pandc@woombyess.eq.edu.au to find out how you can help.
Remember ..... Everyone has something to offer!
We look forward to working with you in the future and please do not hesitate to contact us for more information.
