Many years ago, Woombye’s school library was located in the building now known as 'Cobbs Cottage'. After Cobbs Cottage was moved to its current location the library and its contents were relocated to E block. A few years ago, the open area beside the office block was closed in to create a space for our current library.
In 2018, some of this space was incorporated in the staffroom and office ‘makeover’. An extension was built towards the hall, providing a versatile open space. Since its opening, it’s been utilised as our STEM area.
The library is open each school day during first and second lunch breaks. Students can participate in the STEM based activities offered in first break, or choose from the many options available. Each break, you’re likely to see students borrow, read, complete jigsaw puzzles, play games, construct or create.
Students are asked to use a library bag to ensure our library resources are kept in good condition. Borrowing limits apply to all users and items can be borrowed for up to two weeks.to ensure our library resources are kept in good condition. In 2018, we moved to an online library system. Students in Years 4 to 6 can reserve, search for and review books. It also integrates with Education Queensland’s ebooks, making it easy to find new titles.
The school participates in many annual competitions and projects throughout the year. The CWA country study, Voices on the Coast Literature Festival, Bookweek, Bookfair and an online literature festival are some of our major events. Scholastic Bookfair is also on offer thanks to the efforts of one of the teachers, allowing students and parents the opportunity to purchase new books throughout the year.
