Support teacher - literacy and numeracy 

Education Queensland has changed the context of support in Queensland schools to maximise the students learning outcomes. The current model of support adopted at Woombye State School views the role of the support teacher as:

  • Advising on whole school planning and organisation of literacy and numeracy support

  • Assisting with identification of students at risk

  • Working with teachers to maintain and analyse assessment

  • Monitoring databases

  • Monitoring progress and approaches adopted and

  • Providing on-site professional mentoring and modelling

Other roles include:

  • Liaising with parents

  • Working with external advisory personnel to improve student outcomes

  • Individual assessment

  • Implementation of programs providing extra support for students identified through NAPLAN

  • Year 2 diagnostic net

  • Offering professional development for parents in all areas of literacy and numeracy

  • Liaising with administration and other support personnel to further assist student outcomes and well-being
