BYO device information

 

Device specifications 

Minimum specifications for  devices: 
 
  • Windows device running Windows 10 or iPad running iOS10 or higher  
  • 9.7" screen or larger (no iPad minis) 
  •  battery that will last all day at school. Devices should be fully charged at home before the start of each school day.
  • current anti-virus protection (if applicable) - See Required program information below  
  • 4GB RAM minimum for Windows machines 
  • Ability to connect to Wifi 
  • Office package (free through Education Queensland)  - must be installed at home

Required programs: 

Programs and apps need to be downloaded prior to bringing the device to school.  Updates also need to be maintained at home.

Class teachers may request additional apps or programs for the class. We  recommend Firefox is also installed on Windows 10 devices. 

Virus protection of your choice

Please note that Symantec offers the Norton Security anti-virus product to state school students at a discount. It can be used with Windows, Mac or iOS devices.

Troubleshooting internet access at school

 
Windows 10s has been discontinued. Check if you are eligible for a free update to Windows10 (this may be only available until the end of March, 2018).
 
Microsoft Family account links outside of Education Queensland can be blocked by the proxy.  Enable the Guest account and use the Guest login when at school. 
 
Nortons Family account should be disabled while at school.  Education Queensland provides filtering through the school network.
 
Download FireFox as it can be set for use at school.

Office package (free)

All Queensland state students can download multiple free copies of the latest  Microsoft Office to their personal home computers and mobile devices. The  subscription lasts for as long as the student is enrolled in a Queensland state  school. Students will need to use their school email address to sign in.

Please refer to the instructins for informatin on how to download and install  Microsoft  Office 2016 to your personal devices. Note that you need to uncheck  the boxes if you don't want to make Bing your search engine, or MSN your browser homepage on Windows computers.

For tablest and smartphones, download the apps from the appropriate app store and sign in with your school email address.
