Kids Search Engines

General: Kids Net.au | Yahoo Kids | Berit's Best Sites For Children | Tek Mom | Ask For Kids | Kids Click | Ithaki For Kids | Linkasaurus

Special Search: Animal Search | Earth Cam For Kids | Ivy's Colouring Page Search | Kids Health

Thesaurus and Dictionaries: Merriam Webster | Wordsmyth | Dictionary.Com | Biographical Dictionary

Online Encylopedias: Fact Monster | Encarta | Encyclopedia.com | Britannica

Information for Parents: As you know, the Internet isn't always a Kid Friendly Zone and not just because of the more obvious dangers such as pornography, unsupervised chat and commercial interests. The audience for most websites is, of course, adults and the language is written appropriately. These Kids Search Engines will often produce results that are more child friendly, in a language they can understand. Please use them as a guide only and, as always, parents should monitor what their children are viewing on the web. As these Search Engines are primarily American in content and perspective, searching for Australian content will be more easily achieved by using one of the General Australian Search Engines.

Australian Search Engines

General Search: Alta Vista Aust | ANZWERS | Beyond the BlackStump | Directory Australia.Com | Google | Kangaroo.Com.Au | Mooter | Web Wombat

Directories: Australian Environmental Portal | australia.gov.au | Possum Pages | WhitePages.Com.Au | YellowPages.Com.Au

Sunshine Coast Links: Maroochy Shire Council | My sunshinecoast | SunZine | Tourism Sunshine Coast | University of the Sunshine Coast | Sunshine Plaza

Information for Parents: As their names suggest, these Search Engines provide links that are more specific to Australia. You will soon work out which ones are good for specific applications. Note that NOT ALL of these Search Engines have Australia as their default "search target". For example, you may have to hit a button to specify whether you want to search within Australia, New Zealand or The World. Some of the search engines are highly customisable providing the user with links to information about their local area (including Weather and Entertainment). In general the more features and graphics in the Search Engine Page, the longer it takes to download. For other Australian Search Engines than the ones listed below, simply go into any one of these search engines and type "Australian Search Engines" into the search box.

Other Search Engines

General Search: Alta Vista | BBC Search | Lycos | Northern Light | Yahoo | Wise Nut

Meta Search: Dogpile | Metacrawler | Vivisimo

Information for Parents: "Meta" Search Engines are Search Engines that search other search engines and they are very powerful. Take the time to get to know how each Search Engine works. Once you've found one that really suits you, you can make it your Home Page (or at least add it to your favourites).
